30 stycznia 2017 roku w naszej placówce odbyło się spotkanie z pszczelarzami Tomaszem Miszczykiem i Szczepanem Tuleją, którzy należą do Koła Pszczelarzy w Gdowie. Panowie zaprezentowali prezentację multimedialną „O pszczołach”, w której chcieli przybliżyć nam fenomen jakim jest zorganizowana zbiorowość tych owadów i korzyści jakie czerpie z nich człowiek. Dowiedzieliśmy się, że pszczoły obok hodowli bydła i trzody chlewnej, zajmują trzecie miejsce w gospodarce człowieka. Pszczoły przyczyniają się do wzrostu plonów dzięki zapylaniu roślin, dostarczają człowiekowi produkty pasieczne (miód, kit pszczeli, pyłek kwiatowy, wosk naturalny) a dzięki ich aktywności chronione są naturalne siedliska roślinne. 1 kg pszczół to około 10 tysięcy owadów. Rodzina pszczela jest organizmem zbiorczym, składa się z trzech rodzajów osobników: matki pszczelej (królowej), pszczół robotnic i kilku trutni – osobników męskich. Matka żyje około 7 lat, jest karmiona mleczkiem pszczelim przez robotnice i jej zadaniem jest składanie jajeczek w tak zwanym czerwie pszczelim, z których lęgną się młode osobniki. Potrafi dziennie składać tyle jaj ile sama waży. Robotnica bardzo eksploatuje swój organizm co przekłada się na jej krótki okres życia, to około 6 – 8 tygodni intensywnej pracy. Truteń żyje jeden sezon i po kopulacji z matką ginie, gdyż nie przyczynia się już na korzyść rodziny pszczelej. Optymalnie pszczoła robotnica leci na obszar żerowania 2 km i wraca do ula z pyłkiem kwiatowym bądź zapasem wody. Pszczoła może też odbywać dłuższe loty, nawet do 10 km. Prawdą jest, że pszczoła żądląc traci swoje żądło z woreczkiem jadowym, uszkadza w ten sposób układ jelitowy i w ciągu 2 – 3 dni ginie. Panowie pszczelarze pokazali nam również ul, jego budowę, ramki na plastry miodowe i oprzyrządowanie, dzięki któremu można pozyskiwać miód. Mieliśmy też okazję spróbować produktów pasiecznych w postaci miodu i pyłku kwiatowego. Spotkanie kończyła projekcja filmu, na którym ukazano problem kurczącej się na świecie populacji pszczół z otwartym pytaniem: Jaka przyszłość nas czeka?
